SUMMARY:Understanding the Dynamics of Domestic Violence for Family Law Practitioners
DESCRIPTION:This training will provide an overview of the dynamics of domestic violence in the context of separation\, divorce\, and child custody and access. All are welcome to attend. The training will take place over 4 mornings (8 am – 12 pm Saskatchewan time)\, Monday\, September 25- Thursday\, September 28\, 2023. The training will be held using Zoom. A link and password will be sent out to registered participants prior to the training. \nThis training qualifies for:\n• 15 hours for Continuing Professional Development credits (4.5 hours of Ethics credits) with the Law Society of Saskatchewan\n•  16 ADRIC Continuing Education & Engagement (CEE) credits to persons with a Q or C Med designation. Also approved for 16 hours of training for persons applying for a Q. Med designation.\n• 15 hours for Continuing Professional Development credits with Law Society of British Columbia\n• Alberta\, Manitoba\, Northwest Territories\, and Yukon lawyers: consider including this course as a CPD learning activity in your annual Continuing Professional Development Plan \nSee the detailed agenda here \nREGISTER HERE (When registering\, be sure to select the dates that you wish to attend under “available training courses”) \nIf you cannot attend this training\, visit this page to enter your information to be notified of future training dates! \n  \nThe training is delivered by Jo-Anne Dusel and Crystal Giesbrecht. \nJo-Anne Dusel has been the Executive Director of PATHS since 2014. Prior to that\, she spent two decades working front line with women survivors of intimate partner violence at Moose Jaw Transition House. She has served as co-chair of the Board of Directors for Women’s Shelters Canada and has participated in other national initiatives\, including the Expert Engagement to Address and Prevent Gender-Based Violence (GBV) to help inform the National Action Plan to End GBV. \nCrystal Giesbrecht has served as the Director of Research and Communications at the Provincial Association of Transition Houses and Services of Saskatchewan (PATHS)\, the member association for domestic violence shelters and counselling centres\, since January 2011. Crystal is a Ph.D. Candidate in the Department of Justice Studies at the University of Regina and a Vanier Canada Scholar. She has conducted research relating to intimate partner violence and has published her work in peer-reviewed journals. \nBoth Jo-Anne and Crystal have served as Expert Advisory Panel members for the Canadian Femicide Observatory for Justice and Accountability’s (CFOJA)\, as panelists for Saskatchewan’s current Domestic Violence Death Review\, and sit on the Multi-Sectoral Review Committee for Clare’s Law.
