Changes to Saskatchewan’s Interpersonal Violence and Sexual Violence Leave Policies

Jan 22, 2026

Effective January 1, 2026, amendments have been made to The Saskatchewan Employment Act.

Currently, The Saskatchewan Employment Act provides eligible employees who are victims/survivors of interpersonal or sexual violence with access to up to five days of paid leave and five days of unpaid leave. These days can be taken all at once, or intermittently (broken down into days or hours as necessary).

What’s new? Now, employees will also have the option to take further unpaid leave of up to 16 weeks. This leave must be taken all at once.

Interpersonal Violence Leave is intended to assist individuals to access services or to relocate due to interpersonal violence and/or sexual violence. Abuse does not have to happen within the workplace for individuals to be eligible for these leaves.
