Chapter: Domestic Violence and Companion Animals in The Encyclopedia of Domestic Violence

This chapter in The Encyclopedia of Domestic Violence summarizes current research on domestic violence and companion animals including the human-animal bond, ownership/guardianship, barriers to ending relationships, theoretical frameworks, perpetrators of domestic violence and animal abuse, the impact on children, rural communities, and laws, policies, and services.

This chapter is a collaboration between researchers at PATHS, the Saskatchewan SPCA, Thompson Rivers University, and the University of Regina.
